Healthy Methods for Keeping the Memory of Your Loved One Alive During the New Year – Part 2

29th Mar 2021

Thank you for continuing to follow our series, “Healthy Methods for Keeping the Memory of Your Loved One Alive during the New Year”. Last week, we expounded on the fact that most people suggest that time will heal the pain associated with the loss that we have experienced. This is especially hard at the onset of the New Year – a time of excitement, a time of new beginnings. You should never commit to letting go of the memories that you have of your loved one completely. You were also instructed in Part 1 of this series to focus on remembrance.

Make Changes

If you are like most, there are certain traditions that you take part in when it comes to the New Year. If you are reading this, chances are, the person that you have lost was part of those traditions. Your world has changed. Those traditions will never be the same without them. As a result of this fact, it is imperative that you take the time to make changes. You should create new traditions that will honor the memory of your loved one, not traditions that will encourage you to focus on the sadness that you feel because they are no longer in your life. Simply make a few changes to the traditions that you have – be it celebrations, resolutions, or other types. Not only will this help you cope with the grief that you experience, but, it will help you to keep your loved one’s memory alive all year long!

Create a Memory Basket

It is a common practice to decorate a grave when a loved one dies. Why not put a twist on that tradition this New Year? Instead, create a memory basket. Here, you would simply take pictures and other items such as cards, ornaments, gifts, etc.…that remind you of the precious memories that you have of your loved one. You would then place those items in the basket and put it in a place where others may see it. You will find that it is an awesome conversation starter! Not only will you be able to keep all of those good memories in plain sight, you will be able to tell others about those memories. This memory basket is a fantastic way to keep the memories of your lost loved one alive during the New Year.

Conclusion

As you can see, it is often best to talk about your loved one, keep items out that remind you of your loved one, and share memories of that person with others. The moments that you shared with your loved one should be shared with others and remembered. They should not be tucked away, deep in your mind and your heart. This will only add to the grief. You should openly express your love and appreciation for that person as the New Year rings in! There are many other methods of keeping the memories alive, too! Click HERE to learn more!
